Fabien Mary is one of the most exciting trumpet players on the jazz scene today. He has made quite a name for himself since moving to Paris at the age of 20, touring and recording with a long list of musicians including Michel Legrand, Wynton Marsalis, Diana Krall, Benny Golson, Johnny Griffin, Harold Mabern, Steve Turre, Dave Liebman and Archie Shepp... He also received six nominations for the Django Reinhardt Prize "French musician of the year" by the Academy of Jazz between 2008 and 2016.
His tone combines strength and lyricism, and his playing reveals his personnal synthesis of several influences from trumpet players who defined the bebop and cool era in Jazz history, such as Kenny Dorham,Clifford Brown, Art Farmer, Chet Baker, Miles Davis...
With a solid octet that brings together some of the best French boppers, Fabien Mary presents « Left Arm Blues (and Other New York Stories), an album inspired by his experiences in the Big Apple.
This new project continues the specific concept of jazz orchestration in which musicians such as Benny Golson, Jimmy Heath, Thad Jones, Gigi Gryce, Bill Holman or Teddy Charles were excelling in the 1950s. The fluidity of melodic lines, the elegance of counterpoint and harmonic sophistication are combined in each arrangement.

His previous album « Three Horns Two Rhythm » presented a fresh and original repertoire played by unusual chordless instrumentation, with arrangements emphasizing the blend of tones between the trumpet, tenor saxophone, trombone, flute or baritone saxophone...
A brillant composer and arranger, Fabien Mary created his quartet in 2002 with which he recorded two albums : "Twilight" and "Chess". He then put an octet together. The band features saxophonists Pierrick Pedron, David Sauzay and Thomas Savy, as well as Jerry Edwards on trombone and can be heard on the album "Four and Four" released in 2007.
En 2009, Fabien decided to settle in New York. He played many clubs such as Smoke Jazzclub or Smalls Jazzclub and shared the stage with musicians such as David Hazeltine, Steve Ash, John Webber, Randy Napoleon, Frank Basile, Mike Karn, Joe Cohn...
At the end of 2009, he recorded his new album “Quartet +1” which featured the American baritone saxophonist Frank Basile (Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band, Jimmy Heath Big Band, the Joe Lovano Nonet, the Dave Holland Big Band, Michael Bublé...).
In 2013 was released “Conception” (Elabeth Records) recorded in New York with Steve Ash (piano), David Wong (bass) and Pete Van Nostrand (drums).
For "Three Horns Two Rhythm" (released in May 2015, on Elabeth Records), Fabien Mary composed an original repertoire and called four brillant musicians from New York: Steve Davis (trombone), Chris Byars (tenor saxophone and flute), Frank Basile (baritone saxophone), David Wong (bass) et Pete Van Nostrand (drums).
"Left Arm Blues (And Other New York Stories)" was released in 2018 on Jazz&People label. For this new project, Fabien composed an amazing repertoire played by a Paris-based octet. This album received the prestigious Prize of "Best Album of the Year" by the Académie du Jazz in Paris.
